Pick a beach...it's yours...
This beautiful stretch of highway was developed in response to Florida legislation to encourage the preservation, protection, and maintenance of Florida's outstanding cultural, historical, archeological, recreational, natural and scenic resources. Strong local citizen and government support were crucial to its' success.
30-A embraces the old and the new, from historic villages and neighborhoods which date before the turn of the century to cottage neighborhoods built over the past decade. The emerald green waters and pristine white sand are the main attraction to the area, but the "eat, drink and be merry" atmosphere promotes the ultimate beach lifestyle.
Coastal Dune Lakes - Walton County has the highest concentration of coastal dune lakes in the world. There are 15 coastal dune lakes, with 3 being located off 30-A in Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. These lakes are unique from other lakes or lagoons due to their intermittent connection to the Gulf of Mexico. They form in many ways, such as wind activity in arid regions, where wind erodes rock and redistributes sand. Coastal dune lakes are considered globally imperiled. Other area co astal dune lakes include: Eastern Lake, Big Redfish Lake, Morris Lake, Campbell Lake, Stallworth Lake. Dune lakes provide habitat and forage for a diversity of plants and animals.
